Oldest dog in rescue gets special party for his 23rd birthday — happy birthday, Bully

The typical lifespan of a dog varies based on breed, weight, size, and lifestyle. Taking into account the aforementioned parameters, its life expectancy can range between 8 and 20 years.

Because many owners and families are not fortunate enough to enjoy their dogs for such a long time, having a dog over 20 years old is not regarded usual.

Bully is one of these dogs, a chihuahua born in 1999 who has brightened the lives of his owners for many decades and observed hundreds of historical events as well as the advancement of technology.

Bully was raised by an older man who cared for him until he was 21 years old. However, due to health concerns, his owner was unable to care for him, and the puppy ended up at The Mr. Mo Project, a rescue organisation for dogs.

According to The Dodo, his owner described Bully as “a big dog in the body of a small dog,” since he always had a very strong personality and a very distinct character, which he carried with him until these final few years.

In fact, Chris Hughes, the director of the home where he now lives, said he was impressed by his demeanour. “Bully is a fighter, mischievous, sweet, independent, gentle, calm, and has the bark of an old man.” “Even at his age, he enjoys trying to push other of our Chihuahuas,” he remarked.

Bully’s 23rd birthday was recently commemorated by the organisation with a celebration that included everything from helium-inflated balloons to birthday hats and personalised sweets for him to sample.

” Because he doesn’t have many teeth, we gave him a soft biscuit and crumbled it up for him to eat. “She loves to sleep, so that’s the best gift to give her,” the director continued.

Chris explained that due to his senior age, the little dog generally falls asleep in the most unexpected areas, such as the patio or the kitchen.

Now, Chris and the organization’s volunteers aim to have more of similar celebrations for the home’s elderly and sick dogs. “We try to celebrate all the great things that happen in our home because very often not so great things happen ,” he said.
